ANY QUESTIONS? If there’s anything you’d like to know before signing up, email me & I’ll get back to you.

What’s better than getting out in to the landscape and feeling the sense of peace and tranquility of a wide open space? It’s so good for your mind and gives you a chance to clear your head.

In my own work, I aim to recreate that experience, making paintings which give back some of the sense of space and openness you have when out in the wild.

That’s why in my new course I want to share with you ways to get that feeling across and find the energy normally reserved for abstract work, while making sure it still looks like a landscape.

For many, recreating the emotion of an expansive landscape is what they yearn for. In this course, I’ll show you the ways I’ve found to make paintings that go beyond describing what a place looks like and also communicate what it felt like to be there.

Some of the topics we’ll be working on:

  • Dealing with horizons

  • Creating rhythm & movement

  • Suggesting depth and space

  • Exploring composition

  • How a little detail goes a long way

  • Mark making

Observation is the key, so we’ll start by gathering visual ideas outside through a combination of sketches, taking photos and written notes.

In the studio we will explore different compositions and work towards finished paintings.

What’s included?

  • In depth videos tutorials on a wide range of topics

  • Always-on Private Facebook Group Community

  • Weekly LIVE STREAM ZOOM Q&A

  • Individual feedback on all your work from Lewis over 2 weeks

  • 12 Months unlimited access to all course material

Abstract landscape painting with stormy sky, green field, and dark earth.
Abstract painting with a blue sky, a white moon, and a green and brown landscape.

How does it work?

This is a 2 week course. For each week you will receive video tutorials with in-depth demonstrations giving you all the information you need to do your own work. These detailed demonstrations are presented as if you were taking part in an in-person workshop. Except you can watch as many times as you like!

As you make your own work in response to the tutorials, you can share on the Private Facebook Group where you’ll get personal feedback and advice. This makes it a very interactive course with lots of discussion and support.

I keep class sizes low so everyone gets the help they need. I don’t have a team of helpers, so you can be sure that all comments are from me!

You will have complete access to all material for 12 months from the beginning of the course.!

What do previous students have to say?

"I enjoyed this course enormously and have nothing but praise for all that you have done for us all , Lewis, but I also really hope that people will want to remain a part of this extremely supportive virtual community."

Kathy A.

"Lewis, this has just been an outstanding class, and so important for me! I think I especially love having permission - and a format - to work from a combination of outdoor sketches, photos, and personal responses to the landscape.

Wow, I’m right on my growing edge. The brain squeeze of discretion and composition had a field day with me today, but what a blast and what an amazing education! THANK YOU LEWIS, for keeping it light, for having us work in our sketchbooks, for your amazing demos."

Sonja W.

"Lewis thank you for all your time, your knowledge and your heart to help each and everyone one of us travel further on our journey. You personally commented to each of us. I am so grateful. I will miss this class so much. You are a great teacher.
